OREGON WINDOW TINT LAWS & CUSTOMER ACKNOWLEDGMENT
At Luxury Filmz Tinting, we believe in providing customers with professional window tinting services while keeping them informed about Oregon's vehicle window tint regulations.
Oregon Revised Statutes 815.221 & 815.222 · Reviewed October 2026OREGON WINDOW TINT REQUIREMENTS
Under Oregon Revised Statutes ORS 815.221 and ORS 815.222, the following restrictions generally apply.
01Front Side Windows
For standard passenger vehicles, tint film must transmit at least 50% of visible light, reflect no more than 13% of light, and allow at least 35% total visible light transmission through the finished window, including the original glass.
02Rear Side Windows & Rear Windshield
Standard passenger vehicles generally follow the same requirements. Qualifying SUVs, trucks, and other multipurpose passenger vehicles may have darker tint behind the driver if they meet the law's conditions, including outside mirrors on both sides and applicable glazing standards.
03Front Windshield
Oregon restricts aftermarket windshield tinting to the upper six inches of the windshield. Tint film is not permitted on the remaining windshield area.
04Dark Tint & Medical Exceptions
Film labeled 5%, 15%, 20%, or 35% is not automatically legal for every vehicle or window. Legality depends on the completed window's light transmission and any applicable exception.
Oregon allows certain medical exceptions for darker side and rear window tint with qualifying documentation signed by a licensed physician or optometrist. The required document must be kept in the vehicle and shown to law enforcement on request.
05Citations & Penalties
Operating a vehicle with unlawful tint may result in citations, fines, or required corrective action. Oregon law may also hold the installer responsible for unlawful tint installations. Installer and vehicle-operator violations are separate Class B traffic violations.
